Touring bikes

These are bikes for going places. They often get used for commuting, but really they want to be out on the open road.
A touring bike will have more gears and be generally more solid than a commuting bike. The modern versions have slightly larger diameter tubing than was traditional. This makes them far stiffer so they handle better when loaded up with panniers. This change happened about the turn of the millennium.
