Painting the Floor
Painting the floor is an annual event at our Maryhill Workshop.
We do it in the spring, usually just before the Easter break so that it has time to dry.
We have painted the floor five times now ,and have a well rehearsed system to prevent anyone being painted into a corner.

An evenly painted floor makes it much easier to find the small parts that inevitably get dropped when working on bikes.
The floor is red as that was the colour it was when we moved in. Changing the colour of a floor is a bad idea as when the top coat gets damaged the original colour will show, and it will look terrible. We did change the shade of red. This is a Dulux shade called 'Cherry'.
The floor area is a touch over 100 square metres, and takes 15 litres of paint to give good coverage. We make sure there is adequate thickness in the high traffic areas - such as near the doors - whereas the bits under the benches just get a light coat.
We paint it with rollers, wearing disposable gloves. We don't worry about getting right up to the edges... it's a workshop.
It takes 2 hours to put everything back.
