Bike powered Scalextric
Common Wheel has a bike powered Scalextric. It was made for the 2023 Bridgeton bike workshop relaunch. It uses two Raleigh 20 bikes with rear hub generators. The bikes are fitted into stands which keep the back wheel off the ground and stop them falling over. Each bike is connected to one track, so the faster you pedal the faster the car goes. There's a rectifier in each circuit as the hub generator is an alternator and makes AC, and the cars need DC.
At present we have it wired up to a 1:64 micro Scalextic track and if you pedal fast the cars can go flying off the track. The bikes can be easily removed from the stands and still work as bikes. We do plan to connect it to the larger 1:32 track and see how it works.
We may be willing to hire it out for events.
