Fun Bikes
Some would call these Road Bikes. These are the speed machines that can't be fitted with proper mudguards. In a sense they are toys, bikes made just for the joy of speed. They are great for dry weather rides, but for commuting they are terrible.
Road Racing bikes are not made to last, and tend to be worthless when about 2 years old. Any that survive can be valuable. The current carbon fibre bikes won't be safe to ride after 10 years.
A good old Road Bike will be just as much fun to ride as a new one, and if you are just out for fun being 10 seconds slower over 10 miles doesn't matter. Old steel is also more comfortable and quieter than carbon fibre.
