Trustee of Common Wheel, Richard East, writes:
Originally bought by John Wilson from a bike shop in Boulder, Colorado in 1989, the Alien was brought back to Oxford where John, a legendary bicycle engineer, ran Walton Street Cycles. He used it for his lengthy daily commute everyday for some 20 years.
John fitted handle bar extensions (wooden horns) and an extraordinary fourth chain wheel (he liked a steep hill). He was also responsible for the seat post cycle pump and an array of top end components.
The Alien was a regular sight around Oxford, often towing an open trailer in which Stella his Dalmatian enjoyed the wind in her hair.
Sadly John died from a brain tumor at the age of 52 in 2010 and his treasured bikes were bequeathed to friends. The Alien came to Glasgow.
