Sophie's Stool
This was going to be a stool for the Maryhill workshop, but as Sophie was leaving after a year as our marketing intern it became her leaving gift.
Designing a stool is simple enough. The height and size of the seat are determined by human anatomy and can be copied from another stool that works. The feet need to be about 40cm apart. The rest of the stool can use any structure as long as it's strong enough. Making it symetrical is difficult without a jig, as can be seen below.
It's brazed together, and the joints range from satisfactory to perfect.

The stool weighs 14kg. There are grooves in the underside of the top to make it easier to pick up and move about.
Maryhill still needs another stool. After this experience Neil has made a stool making jig, so the next one will be better. If you have a bike with that sort of swingarm please don't just throw it away, please give it to us and it can have a new life as furniture.
