Lots of people like brown saddles. They want a bike with a brown saddle. They don't care about the rest of the bike, as long as it has a brown saddle then that's fine. It doesn't even have to be a comfortable saddle so long as it is brown.
In our market economy such bikes will be provided. They have brown saddles but the rest of the bike is rubbish and wears out quickly. That is 'The Curse of the Brown Saddle'.
In fairness, many good saddles are brown. If you want a bike with a brown saddle get a good bike and fit a brown saddle to it. Saddles are easy to change and one of the few universally interchangeable parts of any bike.
