Charge Plug with Shimano 5 speed hub gear
This bike was created for a food delivery rider who was always coming in to get his bike repaired. We wanted to make something strong, reliable, fast and light. As anyone who knows bikes will appreciate, these are not compatible qualities.
We decided to use the new Shimano 5 speed hub gear. It was developed for electric bikes and is stronger to deal with the extra torque from the motor. It should be strong enough. It's a lovely gear and shifts perfectly, even under load. the frame is a Charge Plug. These were very popular about 2009 as 'fixies' and where a fixed gear has been a hub gear will go. The tyres are Schwalbe Durano Plus . Fitting the twist grip gear control to drop bars was difficult, we used two brackets to fit a length of spare handlebar within easy reach. We used a cheap steel chainset to keep the price down and the strength up.

The bike was better to ride than expected, being fast with good handling. After all this work and thought, the customer injured himself and has never been in to buy it. At the time of writing its still for sale in Maryhill if you would like to buy it.
